Operations Manager Job Description

We are seeking an Operations Manager to guide, implement, and innovate the daily functions of Explore Bike Share. This multi-talented multi-tasker will oversee the Operations team, creating efficient processes, tracking and reporting on activities, and coordinating work schedules and tasks to ensure timely solutions. This is not a hands-off management position; the Operations Manager will have the ability to perform all the tasks handled by the Operations Team – such as evaluating bike or station errors, retrieving and returning bikes needing maintenance, and organizing workshop areas – and will do so as often as the system requires.

Memphis will be on the cutting-edge of bike share by launching the country’s first BCycle Dash system, offering the first-ever connected smart bike with forward-facing display. Our Operations Manager will be in a unique role to evaluate and elevate this new system.  


Responsibilities & Requirements

Pre-Launch Responsibilities

  • Setting up workshop and headquarters build-out
  • Working with city officials and private property owners for permitting and site selection
  • Becoming expert on hardware and software functionality of bikes and stations
  • Hiring and training mechanics/technicians
  • Assisting with station installs (supported by BCycle team)
  • Inventory and purchasing

Post-Launch Responsibilities

  • Recording quantity and percentage of bikes and stations available to users and producing related reports
  • Maintaining and implementing up-to-date Operating Procedure Guide and Safety Policies and Procedures Guide
  • Determining and scheduling bike/station repairs and maintenance
  • Performing bike retrieval, repairs, and maintenance as needed
  • Ensuring stations, bikes, shop, and equipment are up and running consistently and in good condition
  • Diagnosing and resolving problems with station functionality
  • Performing repairs to station infrastructure
  • Leading innovations to make bikes better suited to their environment (ie: gearing, grips, bells etc.)
  • Determining, scheduling, and innovating optimal balancing levels (bikes per station/per geo-fence area)
  • Working directly and collaboratively with Customer Service manager and team to streamline customer service experience
  • Building and maintaining relationships with suppliers
  • Managing operations budget and records of expenditures, inventory, and warranty eligibility
 

Qualifications and Experience

  •  Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  •  3 – 5 years working as a manager with budgeting experience
  •  Enthusiastically adapting to changes in the work environment
  •  Dependably following instructions, responding to management direction, communicating frequently, and soliciting feedback to improve performance
  • Passion for bikes, transportation, efficiency and sustainability
  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
  • Basic computer skills
  • This position may require bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 pounds

 

    Preferred Skills and Experience

    • Experience driving trailers in an urban environment
    • Knowledge of geography/street layout in Memphis metro area
    • Professional bicycle repair experience preferred; alternatively, a willingness and passion to learn is required
    • Previous bike share experience
